On this one I return to my beloved Audio Technica AT-4073a combined with my Audix M55 Hanging Ceiling Microphone. That AT-4073a and I have been through a lot together. More than I care to imagine. I was once working as a boom operator in Los Angeles with this guy and it was his Shotgun Microphone I was using. The pole fell over right into a big bucket of white paint and I panicked!! I didn't know what to do. The soft material that cuts down on wind noise is basically a sponge, so I ran to some water and tried to get all the paint off. It was wet and looked like a dull grey so I couldn't tell if it was working. I squeezed it as dry as I could, got back on headphones and acted like everything was okay. (His recording/mixing rig was all in the van where he couldn't see me and I would go onto the set remotely with these long cables connected to me. It was a news-type system with the control room in the van.) Anyway, he was freaking out asking where I'd disappeared to, and I told him something like I went to the bathroom or something. He was all pissy but it was over. He'd later to come to tolerate my hi jinks. Actually, most people wouldn't work with him because he was an abusive psychopath, but he got me a lot of work and I'm not as uptight as most people. Anyway, I use the AT-4073a Shotgun Microphone in this episode!!
