A new mandate by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has been making waves amongst many Tokyo 2021 hopefuls. Rule 50 of the Olympic charter prohibits political demonstration or protest within the Olympic village, competition venues, or medal podiums. In this episode we speak with Dr. Janelle Joseph about the implications of this rule, and what might be lost or gained from maintaining, as the IOC does, that the Olympic Games are a neutral, apolitical event.
