12. Star Trek: Not Quite the Final Frontier

This week, we pick up where we left off at the end of our Star Trek episode. With crewman Chris having returned from his travels in the Delta Quadrant, the USS Mint Condition is ready to continue its mission. Chris gives us his numbers 3-5, and then the entire crew gives their first and second picks of our favorite Star Trek episodes of movies.

15:50 Chris gives us his third pick from The Next Generation, “Peak Performance”. This starts a discussion about not playing to win, but playing to a stalemate, and leads us back to the Ferengi.

22:18 Joe gives Jake Sisko an apology before moving into his second pick from The Original Series, “City on the Edge of Forever”. This leads to a discussion about time travel and honoring the prime directive.

32:00 Chris shares his second choice, which is Star Trek: First Contact, which leads to an overall discussion about the movie as a whole.

discussion about “man out of time” as a plot device in storytelling.

43:47 Joe reveals his number one pick (already picked by Josh in our last episode; go back and listen!) from The Next Generation, “Family”. We delve into some of the stuff covered in the last Star Trek episode, but the conversation turns toward a discussion about the Mr. Worf storyline.

1:00:00 We start discussing the directions in which Star Trek went after Roddenberry passed away. We talk about the rules for Star Trek from when he was alive versus an expanding story that needs to grow and change with the times.
