Tommy Hyde - Rebel Heart

Tommy Hyde is a 2-0 professional boxer and publican from Cork. As a kid he travelled the world with his fighter-managing father, Gary, posing for pics with boxing royalty such as Oscar De La Hoya, Gennady Golovkin, Amir Khan, Nonito Donaire, George Groves, Ricky Hatton, Andre Ward, Sergiy Kovalev, Freddie Roach, Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito and Ken Buchanan, to name just a few. He’s there with heavyweight champs Olexsandr Usyk, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis, and lined up for pics and entertainment icons like 50 Cent, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kendrick Lamar and Tom Jones. Along the way he was picking up tips – because Tommy could box, too. He was a three-time Irish underage champ and twice an Elite runner-up, also winning the Celtic Box Cup three times and fighting in Russia, South Africa, Portugal, USA, Ukraine, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, England. After following his dream to become a pro, his debut was planned for his hometown in April 2022… until disaster struck on fight week. Findings in his MRI scan meant that not only was his fight off, but his career was over too. “It was devastating news”, said Gary, but he was determined to seek a second opinion. Tommy kept training away in the background, minus contact, and endured six months of waiting until it was confirmed that he could embark upon his journey. It’s only the start, but it’s already been The Rocky Road to this point. Tommy fights again in Dorchester on St Patrick’s Day before a return to Ireland for an April date in Waterford. And unlike most fighters who get nervous before their bouts, he can’t wait to get out there and make up for lost time…
