Pody McCrory - Hammer Time

STOP! ‘Hammer’ time. Padraig ‘Pody’ McCrory knows a thing or two about stopping people in their tracks. He’s a quiet man but he has been making some serious noise in recent years, knocking out a string of opponents, primarily in his home city of Belfast, and building up a passionate gang of supporters who followed him to Germany last year where he upset the odds to defeat Leon Bunn and claim the IBO world light-heavyweight title. Next up he’s going to headline Feile An Phobail at Falls Park, a few hundred metres from where he grew up. “The Cinderella Man” is how Michael Conlan describes him and here, dad of three McCrory talks about growing up in the aftermath of The Troubles, how boxing broadened his horizons, overcoming a debilitating speech impediment and staying hungry as a 35-year-old veteran.
