READ:
John 6:5-14
DISCUSS:
- Describe a difficult situation you’ve been in that caused you to doubt God’s ability to provide a positive outcome. How did God work your situation for good?
- At this point in Jesus’ ministry, why were so many people beginning to follow Him? For what reasons do people follow Jesus today? What makes you want to follow Jesus?
- Why do think Jesus asked Philip a question to test him? Do you think God tests our faith today? If so, give an example.
- What role did Andrew play in feeding the 5000+ people present? What is your typical reaction to situations that seem to present no readily available solution? With what situations in life do you have a difficult time trusting God?
- How did Jesus provide the need for 5000+ people? Give examples of how God provides for us on a daily basis?
- How much bread was left over? What was the significance of the leftovers? How did the crowd of people respond to Jesus’ miracle? How do you react when God supplies your needs?
PRAY:
- Pray that you have the faith to know that God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
- Pray for The Ridge and our community for increased trust and belief in the provision and power of Jesus.
PRACTICE (on your own):
- Trust deeper: how has Jesus met your needs in the past? How can you trust Him even more in the future?
- Give thanks: What can you do to make sure that you never take God's provision for granted or waste it? Identify the gifts and blessings God has given you. Spend some time in prayer thanking Him for providing for your every need.
DIVE DEEPER (on your own):
- The story of God's faithfulness is all throughout the Word. His faithfulness goes beyond simply providing for His people; He gives in abundance.
- Read John 1:3; Colossians 1:17; Matthew 6:25-27; 1 Corinthians 1:27; Zechariah 4:6; Psalm 23:5.
