1) China and North Korea Cooperation: The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that China is almost openly violating the international sanctions on trade w/ North Korea. At the same time, the US is imposing sanctions on China for it's mistreatment of citizens in Hong Kong. Is the China/NK sanctions violation connected? Are they sending us a signal that if we sanction China, we can't expect China's help on NK?
2) European Union adopts a Magnitsky Act supporting Human Rights: The European Union has agreed to establish a regime similar to the Magnitsky Act in America that will allow the 27 member bloc to sanction those responsible for human rights abuses. The new measures will allow for travel bans on involved individuals and the freezing of their funds too. What do you think---is it progress?
3) Venezuela elections: Maduro controlled Venezuela held Parliamentary Elections last Sunday. The expected result will put Mr. Guaido, who was the head of the Parliament, out of a job. The US had supported him as the official "President of Venezuela". What happens now?
