6-12-25 No Love for Puts

Markets had a rare down-day amid the relentless run since April. Markets are up 3% for the year. There was a record surge in buy back announcements in April, well above any previous year, which is where much of the buying pressure for stocks came from. What happens when the buy back window next closes?? There are two things going on that might indicate now is a good time to think about hedging your protfolio, or at the very least, being patient: Buy backs are about to go into blackout period, and there is no love for puts right now. No one seems to want to buy any insurance for their portfolio: Why buy insurance, when the market is just going to keep going up?? Well...typically, when levels of Puts are low, that indicates proximity to market peaks. These factors, along with seasonality, would tend to indicate markets are primed for a pullback.
