You can commit to the process or you can commit to the goal. One these will bring long term success, and one of these will keep you on the hamster wheel.
When you commit to a goal, there is no other impact with it. If you want to commit to losing 50lbs, that is great! But often people get discouraged, annoyed, and quit before they can even get there. You are so focused everyday on losing weight that when things don't go perfect (which it never will), you think you are failing and give up. OR when you achieve the goal, you have no action plan for after. You thought you reached the end of the rainbow, got the pot of gold and are set for life but the reality is much different. Generally you will divert back to old habits and lose the results you achieved.
When you commit to the activities of a goal, of losing 50lbs, it is less about achieving it directly and more about doing what is needed overtime, knowing that if you keep doing the proper actions you will succeed. When you go to the gym multiple times a week, eat out less often, cook more of your own food, eat more whole food, etc, you are focusing on the process which in turn creates the lifestyle change and helps you keep results far beyond reaching your goal. So even when you have a bad day you don't sweat it because you know you are in the process.
Commit to the process and you will see lasting changes.
