Stocks, bonds, and mutual funds that claim to be “ESG” (environmental, social, and governance) have seen a high volume of retail purchases in the past few years. Unfortunately, there is no generally recognized definition for the term “ESG” when used with investments, and more than a few securities with that tag have been shown to have poor ESG characteristics.
