Filmmaker and photojournalist Amanda Mustard spent years documenting and digging into her family's deepest and darkest secret: her grandfather, William "Bill" Flickinger, was a serial pedophile who molested and r*ped young girls for decades (including her mother and sister). For the most part, Flickinger got away with it. In Mustard's intense but must-see HBO documentary, "Great Photo, Lovely Life," she bravely interviews her grandfather to try and help his victims heal with the aftermath. Shockingly, Flickinger admits to some of his past wrongdoing. In what appears to be a mother and daughter reminiscing over family photos and happy memories, the film quickly takes a turn as they recount sinister and disturbing secrets their family was forced to keep. Mustard gets extremely candid in the film and in our interview.
"I understand that they both should have protected their daughters, but when you are gaslit and groomed and manipulated and abused, they all lived in fear of him," Amanda Mustard, on her mom and grandma.
