For 12 months the Family Empowerment Program was run as a pilot by Charles Sturt University’s Rural Health Research Institute.
The program was offered across rural Australia for 12 months with practitioners trained to provide online therapy for people supporting their loved ones struggling with substance use.
In this episode of The Other Side of Addiction, a podcast sharing the stories from the Family Empowerment Program, we meet Mark Powell from WRAD Health, a community-based alcohol and drug service that has delivered treatment and care to regional Victoria for more than 35 years.
Mark sees firsthand the impact substance abuse can have on friends and family members who are caring for a loved one. He jumped onboard the Family Empowerment Program to go through the Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) and equip himself and his teams with more tools to help family members caring for a loved one.
Mark shares his experience of the program and speaks to the importance of supporting those who care for others.
Please be aware, this episode features conversations about drug, alcohol and substance abuse. If this raises anything for you, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
