Oh boy...brace yourselves folks; this is going to be a tough one! The American Psychological Association just released the new revised version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM5-TR), and we decided to take a look at exactly what it had to say about autism. As you can probably guess, we were not all that enthused, but even so, it launched us into a really good discussion about how clinical perspectives on neurodiversity can only go so far, and how our communities themselves often have far more nuanced understandings of how our brains work.
