"How could I be afraid of what I've always wanted?" That's the question I confronted after creating the space and freedom to pursue my dreams—only to find myself deliberately avoiding the very work I claimed to desire. This profound contradiction revealed the hidden saboteur many of us face: the fear of success.

After spending nearly two decades in a supportive role, prioritizing my partner's dreams and our shared vision, I found myself at 40 starting over. The divorce that ended my marriage also ended the comfortable excuses I'd used to justify not pursuing my personal calling. With journals full of ideas I'd been collecting for years, I finally had the freedom to create the life I'd always imagined. Yet something powerful held me back.

What I discovered through painful self-reflection was that success terrified me at a visceral level. Success would mean fundamental change—potentially making me unrelatable to loved ones, disrupting the quiet simplicity I'd recently established, and most frighteningly, removing any external circumstances to blame for not living my purpose. The comfortable identity of having "potential" would be replaced by the responsibility of actualizing it.

This pattern of self-betrayal creates an internal conflict that undermines everything. When we repeatedly break promises to ourselves about pursuing our dreams, we damage the most fundamental relationship—the one with ourselves and our calling. The familiar discomfort of unfulfilled dreams becomes preferable to the terrifying prospect of achieving them and facing the new identity that would emerge.

Are you experiencing this same contradiction? Can you see your vision clearly but find yourself distracted by lesser priorities? Do you know exactly what steps to take but somehow never take them? That's not laziness—it's fear. On the other side of this fear lies everything you've ever wanted—the alignment of purpose, passion, and daily experience that makes problems diminish in importance and time fly by.

What would happen if you sat with yourself long enough to identify what you're really avoiding? Take the next right step today toward what makes you feel alive. I'll be your accountability partner if you'll be mine.
