Steve Goncalves, father of University of Idaho student Kaylee Goncalves, believes his daughter may have been the primary target in the November 2022 murders. He noted that the suspect entered the home through a sliding glass door on the second floor, where two victims were located, but then proceeded upstairs to the third floor where Kaylee and her best friend Madison Mogen were sleeping. Goncalves pointed out that the killer did not need to go upstairs to carry out the attack, suggesting a deliberate choice to target the women on the top floor.
Additionally, Goncalves mentioned that the nature of the injuries sustained by Kaylee and Madison differed from those of the other victims, implying a more intense or personal attack. He refrained from providing specific details, citing restrictions from law enforcement, but emphasized that these differences support his belief that his daughter and her friend were specifically targeted.
