Bryan Kohberger And The Arrest Warrant

The arrest warrant for Bryan Kohberger, issued in December 2022, details the probable cause that led investigators to charge him with the murders of four University of Idaho students—Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle—on November 13, 2022. The warrant cites multiple strands of evidence tying Kohberger to the crime, including surveillance footage of a white Hyundai Elantra near the crime scene during the early morning hours, cell phone data placing Kohberger in the vicinity of the victims' home on multiple occasions, and DNA evidence recovered from a knife sheath found at the scene, which allegedly matched DNA from Kohberger’s father's trash obtained in Pennsylvania.


The affidavit attached to the warrant also emphasizes behavioral patterns consistent with the timeline of the murders. Investigators allege that Kohberger turned off his phone to avoid detection and returned to the area of the crime shortly after the estimated time of the killings. A surviving roommate also reported seeing a masked man inside the house around the time of the murders, further supporting the warrant’s issuance. The arrest was carried out on December 30, 2022, in Pennsylvania, where Kohberger was visiting family during winter break. He was later extradited to Idaho and formally charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary.
