Ah, the allure of new beginnings – whether you love them or find them daunting, they're an integral part of life. In September, the promise of renewal and transformation is in the air. Despite January's title as the official New Year, this transitional period brings its own unique magic. Here is my four-part formula, a guide to approaching fresh starts with grace and self-compassion.
Four: Shifting Perspectives on the Unfinished
Unfinished projects can make us uncomfortable, triggering negativity and self-criticism. However, in our lives, we're constantly engaging in a cycle of starting, progressing, and completing everyday tasks. To overcome this discomfort, train your brain to focus on positive stories and reframe negative narratives.
Three: Aligning with Values
Our unfinished matters are often tied to our values. Embrace the realization that these unfinished chapters hold the essence of our lives. Values guide our choices, whether it's in the realm of creativity, health, or relationships. Demonstrating your values means reflecting them in your actions, aligning your choices with what you hold dear.
Two: Beginner's Mind
A beginner's mindset is essential for fresh starts. It's a mindset of endless possibilities, unburdened by preconceived notions. Embrace this mindset, letting go of expertise and expectations. It's about being present and open to the endless potential each moment holds.
One: Change Perspective
Change is a journey, and the trans-theoretical model of change illuminates this process. It begins with pre-contemplation, where change isn't on our radar. Then comes contemplation, preparation, action, and possibly relapse. Relapse isn't failure; it's an opportunity for introspection and aligning with your values.
