In this episode, I share a little bit about my journey through journaling, why I find it to be such a powerful tool to nurture my emotional health, and a few tips on how to get started.

Journaling is simple, it’s the act of recording your thoughts, emotions, feelings, and experiences with pen and paper.  I have been keeping a journal on and off for many years (in all honesty, more often off than on until recently). My goal with  this journal was quite simple – I wanted to keep a little trail of my life over time to remember (in my old age, as I sit in my rocking chair by the fire) what life was like when my children were young, and as I went through the various phases of my life. So over that period of time, for me, it was very much a keepsake for treasured memories.

However, I discovered recently a very powerful way to use journaling to process my emotions and nurture my emotional wellbeing.  It isn’t so much about recording the events of my day to remember them at a later stage, but about genuinely pouring my thoughts out on paper and exploring what comes up.  This has completely changed my relationship with journaling.  It has helped me uncover thoughts and beliefs that I didn’t know I had.  It has helped me to develop more empathy and compassion for both, myself and others.  It has helped me work through emotions.

It has been so much more beneficial than I anticipated…
