On this episode of The Mess We're In, I'm honoured to have my truly inspirational friend Laura Dockrill
Laura is an author, script writer, playwright, poet, illustrator, podcast host, speaker, Women's Fiction Prize judge - the list goes on!
The strings to her bow are endless and she is an absolute JOY.
We first met many moons ago through the music industry, but really connected after becoming mothers and sharing lots of open conversation around postpartum mental health, as well as sharing lots of giggles.
*Warning - this episode does contain lots of open conversation around mental health*
Laura's 2020 memoir 'What Have I Done' is a raw, yet uplifting and life affirming recollection of her experience of postpartum psychosis, which she developed after the birth of her son.
The work Laura has managed to do by taking literally the darkest, most frightening time, transforming it into the book and enabling dialogue around maternal mental health is incredible.
Laura is an ambassador for the charity Action on Postpartum Psychosis and has been breaking down a lot of stigma the past few years, generating more hope and less shame for anyone who has ever struggled with perinatal mental health issues.
She has also written beautiful, empowering children's books 'Grey' and "I Am Strong Just Being Me' that equip children with importance of being aware of their feelings and emotions and encourage their uniqueness and individuality.
Laura's most recent 2024 highly acclaimed, first adult novel 'I Love You, I Love You, I Love You' is the most heart wrenching, delicious, nostalgic story of finding your first true love, that I implore all to read! More writing is on the way and I cannot wait for what come next. Laura writes feelings and I am so very grateful for her.
