The likelihood of finding a blood or bone marrow donor varies greatly based on race: white patients have a 75-80% chance of finding a donor, while that number falls to just 25-30% for black patients. That disparity is something Be The Match is working to eliminate in order to help all patients have equitable access to transplants. On this episode of the Medical Alley Podcast, we're joined by Dr. Steven Devine, the Chief Medical Officer of the National Marrow Donor Program/Be The Match. He shares more insights on the hurdles facing diverse populations with regards to transplants, and offers up some ways in which those barriers could soon be eliminated.
