Devotional Message:
Scripture: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” – Matthew 3:17 (NKJV)
Before Jesus performed a single miracle, preached a sermon, or called a disciple, the Father declared over Him: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” His identity was affirmed before His assignment began. This is a powerful truth for us: who you are to God matters more than what you do for God.
So often, we strive to prove our worth through accomplishments or ministry. But God calls us to rest in our identity as His sons and daughters before we run in our assignments. Your value doesn’t come from performance, but from relationship. When you know who you are in Christ—chosen, loved, accepted—you can step into your calling with confidence and security.
Understanding your identity anchors you. It guards you from pride when things go well and protects you from despair when things don’t. It reminds you that you work from approval, not for it. God’s love is not based on what you produce, but on who you are in Him.
Today, ask yourself: Am I rooted in my identity as a child of God, or am I trying to earn His approval through my assignment?
Prayer:
Almighty Father, thank You that I am Your beloved child. Help me to rest in that truth and walk confidently in my identity in Christ. Let everything I do flow from a deep relationship with You, not from striving to earn what You’ve already freely given. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
