How many times have done this? I know I'm sure guilty of it.
We say yes when it should have been a no. Or we're quick to people please because we felt we should in that moment or that it'll be the right thing to do.
But, is that serving you or is it often leading to resentment?
In this episode we tackle:
-WHY we tend to people please
-HOW it can be impacting our health
-WHAT to look out for
-And we get down to the ROOT along with some SOLUTIONS that can help you move forward in a healthy way
If you are a people pleaser, I highly recommend snagging the book, "Boundaries" by Dr. Henry Cloud: https://www.amazon.com/Boundaries-Updated-Expanded-When-Control/dp/0310351804/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=boundaries&qid=1618903352&s=books&sr=1-1
*He also has a workbook that you can do along side your reading
Bible verses mentioned:
-Galatians 1:10
-1 Thessalonians 2:4
-Ephesians 5:10
-John 12:43
Coaching Session
1) Why have you been people pleasing?
-Get to the *root*
-What are you trying to prove?
-Is it your worth, that you’re strong, capable, smart, kind, deserving, loving or helpful?
-Or do you just have a hard time saying no. Is that tied to proving yourself?
2) What area are you having the most trouble with people pleasing in?
-Is it with being too available for certain people?
-Always over committing to things?
-Constantly saying yes because it's your family or your in-laws and you don't want to let them down?
3) How can you set up a boundary around that area?
-That way you know ahead of time so when this specific area comes up you're aware that it could be a slippery slope
-AND set that tool (boundary) in place to help you
-Maybe it's not allows responding back right away so you can pray on it
-Maybe its practicing saying no
-Maybe it's removing the guilt and desire to prove your worth
-Maybe it's getting intentional with where you're at along with your time and realizing what typically is the straw for you that breaks the camels back with over committing
Again, always pray and seek God for his will for your life before you say yes to anything -it's a been a game changer for me
