A Chicago police officer (whose name is withheld for safety) shares her experience as a believer in law enforcement. From dangerous neighborhoods to Faith Fridays—weekly prayer walks with clergy across crime-ridden areas of Chicago—her story reveals hope and gospel light shining in unexpected places.
“There are more Christians in the force than you’d expect—and the community wants us there.”
13-year-old David Nelson discovered his Jewish heritage and fell in love with Israel. He shares how receiving a Hanukkah Box from The Friends of Israel sparked meaningful connections and some amazing Israeli cooking.
“I used the olive oil and Za’atar mix to make Israeli toast!”
Steve’s daughter Shayna explains how a once-forgotten game—Mahjong—is making a comeback in Jewish and non-Jewish communities alike. She also highlights a powerful Billy Joel documentary that connects the pop icon to his Holocaust-survivor roots and explains why it should be required viewing for Christians today.
Dr. Mike (Shayna’s husband and NT scholar) draws surprising connections between the classic hymn The Love of God and rabbinic sayings going back to the first century. This mini-lesson in Jewish-Christian literary overlap will change how you hear that familiar verse.
FOI graphic designer Micah recounts his recent experience on the ORIGINS Israel trip, where participants served Israeli communities during what’s now called the 12-Day War. As ballistic missiles from Iran rained overhead, Micah and others took shelter—but also stepped out in service and prayer.
“God gave me peace I didn’t understand. I’d go back again in a heartbeat.” -Micah Husk

🗣️ Yiddish Word of the Day: Kina hora (קײן עין הרע) – a contraction of the Yiddish/Hebrew phrase kayn ayin hara that literally means “no evil eye.” It’s used after mentioning something good to ward off envy or bad luck—much like knocking on wood. Keeping this humble, cautious attitude reflects the heart of Psalm 119, which urges us to safeguard our hearts and remain grounded in God’s Word rather than tempting fate.
