248: Pokemon Sword & Shield, Virtual Reality and Game Subscription Wars

Pokemon Sword and Shield has finally arrived on the Switch. This is the first mainline Pokemon game for the Switch and we have some things to say about it. With a new "wild area," more Pokemon and Dynamaxing...is it enough to live up to the hype? This episode features our Patreon supporter Andrew on to talk about his thoughts on the game. In the news, Phil Spencer says there will be no VR support on Project Scarlett because "no one is talking about VR." However, Facebook acquired Beat Saber's developer and Codemasters acquired Project Cars developer who happened to make a VR version of their game. Half Life Alyx also sells out the Valve Index. I guess there is more VR happening than we thought? In less happy news, Battleborn is shutting down in 2021 for good.

Our discussion is all about the video subscription wars in full force. From Xbox Game Pass to Google Stadia, there is a subscription out there for someone to fall into the trap of paying monthly for services they may not use on a regular basis. Is this a good or bad thing for the industry?
