Olly Self, Williams Sr. Design Engineer on Formula 1 – E141

Grip, aero, speed, fuel, downforce, weight…All elements that have to be accounted for when it comes to racing in Formula 1 . For today’s guest Olly Self, they’re all pieces of a puzzle he tries every day to solve as a Senior Design Engineer at Williams Racing.

Though he’s recently worked with the engine systems group, Olly also designed the current Williams jack, and he’s previously worked with hydraulics and teams. Olly is living proof that having a technical mind and little bit of madness makes for a talented engineer. From tinkering with old Mini's using only a few online photos as his guide, his wealth of knowledge and love of motorsport shine through in all he does.

On today’s episode we discuss Olly’s history in F1 and how he was first introduced to it, he answers questions from a few fans, and we discuss all aspects of racing and the sport.
