EPISODE 122 - Podcast Tips for Being a Better Guest on Your Next Podcast - Learn From The Experiences of Others

Being is guest on podcasts is a great way to strut your stuff, make valuable connections and share your message - here are some things to consider when reaching out to podcasts that you want to guest on...

- unfortunately not all podcast hosts will respond in a timely manner (or at all)

- have ONE call to action not 25! A website is $12 a year and you can build your website on Canva for free - so a linktree is not the best place to send people - a website is your spot on the internet that you control - have one place to send listeners and then populate your site with all the other links to where you are on social media

- consider having a gift or free offer that isn't available to EVERYONE, just the listeners - you can track when listeners click through to your offer and it gives listeners a special bonus just for them!

- Question - do I have to listen to a podcast before I guest on the show? Nope! Should you, Yes! Why? You will pick up on the tone, energy and vibe of the show which can be your super power as a guest when it is your turn!

- When communicating with the host avoid canned copy/paste communications - personalize your pitches so that your email stands out in a crowded email inbox!

- When pitching yourself to a podcast host - pitch content ideas for the show and how you would be a great guest to discuss the content that you suggested - not just your book.

- During the podcast - answer the question that is asked of you and keep your answer short and valuable - let the host pull out further details about your answer instead of going on and on for 20 minutes for one simple question

- have good tech if you want to be a frequent guest - a $50 usb mic and a pair of wired headphones will do wonders when you show up to record your podcast interview - be sure to record from a quiet spot with no distractions (turn off your phone!)

- Show up for your guest spot as if you were about to walk onto the biggest stage of your life in front of thousands of people! This is a big opportunity, treat it as such.

- Leverage other guests from the podcast you are guesting on - there maybe other guests that you can connect with now that you have both been on the same show - you never know where that might lead!

- when pitching a podcast to be on as a guest - remember the podcast is not about you, it is about the audience, always!

- Ask yourself - why am I guesting and what is the result that I am hoping for by being a guest - if you don't know the answer to that question - figure that out before your next pitch!

- Thank your host before, during and after each opportunity

- and lastly, be prepared - always
