Consensus: Neither of us found this film very terrifying at all... HOWEVER, it remains a very influential and important film in the genre. A lot if ideas and tropes that were in their infancy here were fleshed out and perfected in later horror films, which you can see today. 
So, if you're a fan of the Paranormal Activity series it's a must see!
If you're looking for a true paranormal scare... not so much.
