In this parable, Jesus talks about Himself. He knows His destiny and He doesn't shy away from it. But He does give His hearers an opportunity recognizes that He truly is the Son of God.

This is a story about God reaching out to Israel throughout the centuries. God sent the prophets, who they killed and He sent His Son, who they also killed.

It's a wake-up call to acknowledge the reality of who Jesus is.
