The Haven Podcast is making some changes. When we originally started the aim was towards educators. I worked in education for several years it was an amazing time for me personally and it's the field where I grew so much professionally, but currently I'm not in the field. I am however, still serving youth so the Haven Podcast is going to expand the focus to youth services which will cover the education field, workforce, everything that covers youth services.

The Podcast for youth service workers! The name Haven is like a personal homage to the area of the Bronx where I worked for over seven years, the Mott Haven section, the name of the first school I worked in was Mott Haven Village Prep H.S. and where I really built my foundation as a professional, Bronx Haven H.S.

Bronx Haven was given the name Bronx Haven because of the fact that it is located in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, also because part of the vision was for the school to be a Haven for students. The definition of Haven is: a place of shelter, safety, refuge.

The mission of this podcast is to play the role of a digital haven for youth workers where they can find shelter, safety, refuge. It will be a place for youth workers to connect, to network, to build, to be encouraged because youth services can be very draining. It will be a place to escape for a short period where not only can they network, build and be encouraged, but they can hear funny stories, share funny stories, and hear some light-hearted things. It will also be a place for a constant reminder. Working as an educator for several years, during the most stressful times, during the times where I even questioned if I was in the right field, questioned if I was making any difference, felt like giving up, I always brought myself back to this one question to get my focus back and I always used this question to help my peers get their focus back and it’s: What is this all about? What is the bottom line, the ultimate goal of my job? It’s all about these young people. That’s the constant reminder that will be shared. It’s all about the youth we are serving!
