“Diligent research and evocative story telling combine to make this book a truly compelling read”. Praise indeed for ‘Wizards’ and its author Anindya Dutta, from none other than Kapil Dev.

In this episode of Guerillashire, Tony Bishop and Anindya discuss the mystical, twirling, whirling, floating, ripping, gripping world of Indian spin bowling. No other skill has contributed more to India’s cricket – and arguably, spin bowling is what drove its race to the top.

The story of Indian spin bowling goes as far back as the turn of the twentieth century. ‘Wizards’ covers no less than 74 Indian spinners, from Palwankar Baloo, though the genius of Subhash Gupte, Vinoo Mankad and Ghulam Ahmed, through the fabled spin quartet of Bedi, Prasanna, Chandra and Venkat, onto Kumble, Harbhajan and Ashwin and right up to Chahal and Kuldeep. Anindya picks two historical quartets to take on the current England side home and away. Listen to hear who they are – and who doesn’t quite make it. Most importantly let us know your selections!

Thanks to Jeff Perkins for the theme tune and jingles and to Jon Stone for editing and production support.
