MANN AGGED: HEAT 2 BY MICHAEL MANN AND MEG GARDINER
Criss-cross apple sauce everyone and gather round as Thomas and Ken discuss HEAT 2, Michael Mann's first novel, published a few months ago, which acts both as a prequel AND sequel to his 1995 film masterwork.
We get Hanna and McCauley in Chicago years before the events in Heat. We get Chris in South America after the events of Heat with Hanna on his trail. We get Mann and Gardiner clearly writing Hanna as Al Pacino with all his weird dialogue and it is kind of awesome.
Important note: Both Ken and Thomas had copies of the book but Ken didn't get through the initial section because of "reasons" explained on the podcast. What results is a treat for all of us Thomas fans: Thomas gets to recount the entire plot of the book and give his thoughts on its merits. Major spoilers and all that. Mann has spoken of wanting to turn this into a giant movie (needing a recast of a few iconic actors) so this is a great opportunity to see what it's all about before the movie gets made and not having to read the book!
This is a unique episode, our first ever Book Report!
