GBW #1: Humble Beginnings (Darkman / Spawn / The Toxic Avenger)

On our inaugural episode of The Good, The Bad, and the What!?, Chris appropriately went with superhero origin stories, specifically of the horror/sci-fi variety. We discuss the nearly identical story structure between 1990's "Darkman" - Sam Raimi's first foray into studio filmmaking - and 1997's "Spawn," the oft-maligned adaptation of Todd McFarlane's popular comic book series. For the "What?," we squeeze in talk about 1984's "The Toxic Avenger," the savior and overall rosetta stone of Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz's Troma Entertainment.
