I'm calling out Portugal as a country that sucks when it comes to running a business! I certainly started off with the best of intentions. Pre-pandemic, I registered my 'activity', as the Portuguese put it, setting up myself up as a self-employed consultant over at Finanças in my local Loja de Cidadão . I want to pay my taxes here and do the right thing as a foreigner coming into the country. HOWEVER, it was from thereonin certainly NOT plain sailing. That good intention led to a special hell, my first of many mistakes, and an act of 'migrant naiveite', that should have been done through a professional!
