#60 Empire Of Light

The mechanics of cinema have the ability to heal trauma. That's what we're meant to think in Sam Mendes' latest picture, Empire of Light. Set in 1980s Margate, we see Hilary and Stephen, two people carrying very different traumas on their shoulders - patriarchy, racial violence, misogyny. The place where this seems to melt away is the cinema space. Can cinema really have the power to heal? Check out our latest take!
