Starter for 10 is a coming of age tale that follows the character of Brian Jackson, a working-class lad from Southend on Sea who wants to go to university - he loves knowledge and what it represents. Set against the backdrop of 1980s Bristol, Brian enlists for the University Challenge quiz team - a homage to his late father who he used to watch it with.
