Transformed by the Spirit: Self-Control

This Sunday, we come to the last characteristic of the fruit of the Spirit, self-control. We live in a culture that celebrates one’s identity through overindulgence and giving into whatever desires we have. Yet, scripture tells us that to be full of the Holy Spirit is to be a people of self-control. We tend to think that means denying ourselves of all pleasure and just saying “No!” through sheer will power. The Apostle Paul invites us to see how biblical self-control is more than just will power, but a disciplined life rooted in a healthy relationship with Jesus Christ.
