What could be more humbling than losing one’s memories? Not knowing who you are, really, and what you’ve done? Not recognizing faces? That could reasonably strike terror into most people—quite understandably. And yet, for Dane McCormack, a Tasmanian-born and raised man living on mainland Australia, it never occurred to him. Instead, despite having lost most of his short and long term memories to cancer and its subsequent brain infection, amongst other devastating losses, Dane methodically went in search for his memories. And he did so through writing. He spent 12 months in the hospital where he was given 24 hours to live several times. Despite losing the toes off his right foot, 20cm of his bowel, his long and short term memories, his sense of smell and taste, he did not lose his sense of humor. His story is one of inspiration, and as he explained about his incredible journey, “I'm a lot worse off because of it, but I'm also better because of it.” Listen in to this captivating story about a regular man who lost his memories, only to gain the gift of slowing down, being present, and accepting—and loving—life as it is.As Dane says, “Don’t be scared. Be prepared.”To find out more about Dane and read his work:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/danemcWordPress: https://chalksketchesonthefloor.wordpress.comhttps://danemccormackauthor.wordpress.com/home/To support the show, access all the prior episodes of TFM, find out more about Melissa:Go to The Fully Mindful at https://www.thefullymindful.comBook a free, no-strings-attached, no-sales call to find out about coaching with Melissa:https://calendly.com/thefullymindful/15-20-with-melissa-clone--- Support this podcast:
