Have you ever struggled with depression and anxiety? Do you often choose to either pretend to be happy, or to rush home to be alone with your feelings, rather than openly and honestly sharing how you're feeling with the ones you love and trust?
If so, I totally get it. Afterall, this was my go-to coping strategy for years. Pretending to be happy when everyone else was around, until I could finally find an excuse to escape and cut myself off from the rest of the world, all so that I could just be alone with my feelings.
I literally became an emotional escape artist. The kind that had everyone convinced that I always had it all together, by always pretending to be happy on the outside while I was actually suffering on the inside.
Sadly, this is something that I think many of us who struggle with depression and anxiety do. And the very first thing I think we need to change.
That’s why in this episode of TheFemmeCast and in honor of World Mental Health Day I am going to share why I choose (and often still choose) to isolate myself from others and hide how I’m feeling when I’m depressed or anxious, and explore how we can begin to shift that. For ourselves and each other.
So if you've ever struggled with depression and anxiety, if you've often found yourself dealing with it by becoming an emotional escape artist and pretending to be happy on the outside, while you were actually suffering on the inside, then you’re gonna wanna listen to this episode.
PS: Still bending, chasing, and settling? That ends now.
