Grayson Zuber’s story can’t be put in a box—he’s more than a stone mason, a musician, or someone who has battled addiction. Being in his presence felt almost angelic, and hearing him share both his words and music was unforgettable.
The morning after our conversation, Grayson texted me this:
“I try not to ruminate too much on the infinities I omitted. But I do wish I would have conveyed this about addiction and recovery: there is immense beauty in this precious life, and we miss it if we cannot also bear witness to tremendous pain. Two types of suffering: One that we run away from, and it follows us all around our life, and the other that we face directly and in doing so become free.”
That message captures the heart of his story: recovery, presence, and finding freedom through facing pain.

Reflections:
“You can either drive the boat right into the storm or try to run from it. Either way, you’re going to meet that storm at some point. But if you run into it now and face it directly, you may get through it quicker and there will be light on the other side. Or you can run, and the storm will catch up to you eventually.” – Phoebe Kessler, EMDR
