This podcast episode is the second of two on the subject of people of colour in the business world. It features two conversations, the first with a man of Pakistani heritage and the second with a woman of Iranian heritage.
The man is Nadeem Akhtar. He is a corporate and commercial lawyer, and Managing Partner of his own firm, Blackstone Legal. He has some pretty forthright views on the "glass ceiling" in the legal profession, which he believes forces lawyer of colour to start their own firms if they want to achieve Partner status.
The woman is Vafa Taleban, who has 25 years of experience in the healthcare sector, where she ticked a lot of boxes and reached the top of her career ladder and still didn't feel a true sense of belonging to the culture she worked within and was left lost and unfulfilled.
This episode is not easily listening. They were not fun conversations. But I think the time is right for me to have these conversations, and for you to perhaps consider having such conversations with others, whatever colour your skin.
If you've not yet listened to part one of this two-part mini-series, please do.
And please do consider what small actions you can take to move equality, true equality, forward by the tiniest degree. If we all did that, to what would all those changes add up?
