In this episode, I talk about what it takes to change your life.
It sounds like a big, cheesy topic but it's so important that people know they have the power to change their lives. Starting right now.
But if you're serious about changing your life, true change requires several things.
You need to decide you want to change. Lots of people want to change, but when you powerfully decide you show up differently. You're committed. You're ready to do the work, whatever it takes, for as long as it takes.
You need to suspend disbelief that true and lasting change is possible. If you want buy-in from your brain to take the uncomfortable, sometimes painful, action needed to make substantive changes to your life, you need to actively and intentionally believe that change is possible for you, too. It is.
You need to take emotionally responsibility. This is huge. You are 100% responsible for your thoughts, feelings, actions, and results. No one else. Not everyone wants to believe this. Not everyone wants to come face to face with the fact that in every circumstance they are responsible for how they choose to show up. But it's so important to get this concept.
To truly change your life, you need to work on the areas where you feel most vulnerable. We all have shame, insecurities and perceived weaknesses that we keep hidden because we're afraid of what others might think of us. But when we hide these parts of us, we're actually allowing them to grow. Shining a light on them, speaking of them, writing about them, all help to deflate their importance and we no longer expend so much energy just trying to keep them from surfacing.
Finally, when we're ready to start the work to change our lives, we need to go into the process knowing that mindset work is a lifelong journey. For some, this is great news because it helps them realize there's no "pressure to perform" immediately. For others, this seems almost deflating. They want results now.
This is why deciding to change is so important, and not just wanting to change.
Because when we commit to changing our lives for the rest of our lives, we want to do the work. We're not afraid of hard work if we're really truly committed because we know that's where the growth is.
I don't sugarcoat the process with my clients because doing so would be a huge disservice.
It takes commitment. It takes daily practice. It takes doing hard, uncomfortable things, over and over.
But it is 1000% worth it.
And your life will be all the richer for it.
