Her area of research is interdisciplinary combining the areas of positive psychology, business administration and mass communication. Her research concentrations value happier workplaces, well-being, and meaningful work. 

She is the co-host of the Thriving in Toxicity. The podcast helps individuals thrive in the workplace and life. Dr. Alston is the founder of the Kourting Happiness Movement, which is a community committed to understanding how to cultivate a positive life at work and home. She is an assistant professor at North Carolina A&T State University’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. She has worked as a News Director, Television Reporter, and Public Relations executive. Dr. Alston has a Ph.D. from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communication and an MBA from Morgan State University.
