Erica Jordan-Thomas’ commitment to equity is grounded in her educational experiences that prove all students can be successful when given the resources aligned to their unique needs. As a product of public schools, it was the equity leadership of her teachers that inspired her to follow in their footsteps. Erica’s career in education began as a Teach For America corps member teaching high school math in Charlotte, North Carolina. Inspired to create change at a broader scale, she worked as an instructional coach for Teach For America.
Believing in the power of strong building leadership, Erica went on to join the 11th cohort of New Leaders, a principal preparation program focused on developing school leaders for turnaround settings. After completing a principal residency, she served as an assistant principal and middle school principal in Charlotte, North Carolina. Under her leadership as principal, she implemented equitable practices such as restorative practices, school-wide implementation of the International Baccalaureate program, and an extended day high school credit program that increased high school credit options. Consequently, her school grew to be ranked #2 out of 43 middle schools in the district for their growth in English language arts and #3 in the district for their growth in science.
In May 2021, Erica graduated with her doctorate in education leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Erica focused her doctoral studies on education entrepreneurship, racial equity leadership, and system-level strategy that empowers school principals to effectively lead schools our students deserve. She is the Founder & Owner of two businesses, EJT Consulting LLC, a consulting business focused on providing school leaders with quality learning experiences, and Get LaunchED Consulting™️, a business development program helping educators launch their own consulting business for impact.
Erica is a native of Columbus, Ohio and proud alumna of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s in Textiles and Clothing. She holds a Master’s degree in Instructional Leadership from Relay Graduate School of Education. Erica received the New Leader Award from the College of Education and Human Ecology at her alma mater, The Ohio State University. She currently serves as board chair of The Collective National Advisory Board, Teach For America’s Alumni of Color Association.
