On this episode, I Zoom in Xica Henley and we chat about her journey in building an educational consulting company. Xica Henley is a seasoned educator with 14 years of experience. She has taught grades 6-12 serving as a Reading in the Language Arts Instructor, an English Instructor, an AVID Instructor, and a Dean of Instruction. In her teacher leader roles, she has served as a lead teacher, department chair, assessment coordinator, literacy coordinator, dean of instruction, and a student recruitment specialist. In her current role, she is an AP of English. In addition she is a class of 2000 Golden Apple Scholar of Illinois and a Summer 2016 Education Pioneers Fellow. ​ She believes in the power of education and is a lifelong learner. She has earned a BA in English/Secondary Education, a Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies, a Masters in Teacher Leadership, and is currently completing her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. As an educator, she realizes that we all affect change in many ways. She's come to understand that powerful instruction is linked to many factors, two of the most important being the availability of quality instructional materials & tools and support around the implementation of those materials. Her ultimate goal as an educator is to affect change through the development and implementation of purposeful, relevant curricula for schools. She aspires to help districts, schools, organizations, school leaders, and teachers create and manage curricula that is accessible to all stakeholders, provide the support necessary to help students meet the standards that they will need in order to be successful in the future, and provide the necessary components to help these students develop into well-rounded individuals. It is her belief that providing the materials, know-how, and support necessary to schools, school leaders, and staffs will promote success among their diverse student populations. When she is not teaching, coaching, or doing homework, she is spending time with her wonderful family and friends and adorable yorkie shih-tzu, Coco.
