1. Single mothers are more likely to live in poverty than married couples. In 2017, 36% of single mothers were living in poverty compared to 6% of married couples.  2. Single mothers are more likely to rely on public assistance than married couples. In 2017, 48% of single mothers received public assistance compared to 9% of married couples.  3. Single mothers are more likely to be unemployed than married couples. In 2017, 24% of single mothers were unemployed compared to 6% of married couples.  4. Single mothers are more likely to have lower incomes than married couples.
