“How do you create an environment to be yourself”
– Lisa Dadd
In this episode, you’ll hear about:
My guest and her brilliant story about how she created her own positive pathways by changing her lifestyle and her corporate career which wasn’t inspiring her to develop her own newly fabulous lifestyle.
Lisa’s yellow Labrador Leo squeaks. He doesn’t do it all the time. Only when he is swimming. Often people mistakenly think he is distressed or in need of assistance as he slaps at the water making this odd little sound. In reality, he’s just really, really happy! It’s hard not to smile or even break out into a full belly laughter watching him play. Here in the water, he is 100% in his element.
That’s the kind of joy Lisa was seeking when she decided to walk away from a successful, fifteen-year career in the corporate world. At the time, life was pretty good. She’d achieved a certain level of success, had the company car, stock options and incentive trips to luxury destinations. She had everything she thought she was supposed to want. She just didn’t have that tail-wagging happiness her dog possessed.
Her constant dissatisfaction and lack of fulfillment with her job started to spill over into the rest of her life, and shestarted to question the point of it all. She was numb on a good day. It was more work just getting out of bed to go to work, than actually doing the work! If she was going to put in her blood, sweat and tears into her work, shouldn’t it matter more to her?
If she was going to spend a huge percentage of her life earning a paycheck, why couldn’t it be more fun?
She’d spent far too many years saying, “One day I’ll figure out my passion and then I’ll follow it!”
Until one day, She realised something that forever changed her life.
She was only stuck, if she chose to be!
But she wasn’t figuring it out. She was letting the business of life distract me and the notion of “be grateful for what you have”, delay the inevitable. So she kept truckin’ along, hopeful some career fairy would fly by and sprinkle magical purpose dust on me and then she’d finally be happy.
Whose permission did she think she needed? Why was she waiting for someone else to decide the direction of her career (and in essence her life)?
The moment that thought hit her, she chose differently. She left that corporate job, started walking down this path of Finding Fabulous, and hasn’t looked back!
The farther down the path she goes, the more amazing people she meets who continue to defy the status quo and challenge her perception of possible. As she delves into their stories, and soaks up the wisdom of their experiences, the more she believes this way of life is not only ideal, it’s completely achievable.
So here she is, a self-professed digital nomad, on the path of Finding Fabulous. She “Plays in the Gray” and likes it that way!
What’s that mean? …
It means she is intentionally blurring the lines between work and play. She’s throwing out the rulebook of what makes sense and writing a new one on what feels right. She’s letting who she wants to be in life, design what she wants to do for a living.
In the process, she’s embracing the ambiguity that leads me.
She knows – ambiguity can be overwhelming. It can cause us to play small and prevent us from chasing our dreams. It certainly paralyzed Lisa for many years.
So now, instead of fighting it, she’s embracing it. She’s choosing to follow the wonder, fascination and curiosity that accompany it. She’s discovering the path of possibility that shows up in response to it.
