Intersex people to receive new rights in Australian first

The ACT is set to become the first Australian jurisdiction to legally change the way young intersex people are treated by health professionals.

Under the new legislation, medical interventions for intersex children will be banned until they are able to provide consent.

Urgent or life saving medical procedures will still go ahead under the law.
