In this podcast, I talk with Nashville watercolor artist Phil Ponder. His painted historical buildings, homes, mansions, schools, churches, lighthouses, and other public places have preserved historic architecture throughout the US as well as internationally. With more than 700 paintings under his belt despite becoming an artist after retirement, Phil has built a name for himself in Nashville over the years among the locals.
Born in Florida, Phil shares what it was like growing up in the small town of Ocala. He talks about the artistic influence his mother, Onie, gave him and how she lived to be one of the oldest women in the world at 112 years old. He shares his career path and how a chance meeting at a frame shop changed the course of his career as an artist after retirement. He discusses his technique, his newest projects, and offers advice to other artists starting out.
Phil also shares how successful his retail sales have been by selling prints, puzzles, and his newly released book. He also talks about his commissioned work.
