Today, we’re sharing real life brand campaign offers we’ve turned down as a content creators. One thing we see in the influencer industry are influencers talking about how they consistently get low-ball offers for brand partnerships. We wanted to share that no matter what stage you’re at as a content creator, you’re still going to get low-ball offers BUT you will also receive opportunities that will match you at your requested rates.

Before we dive into real life examples, we want to first breakdown why brand choose to not pay or increase their marketing budgets for influencer campaigns:

Reason 1: A brand might be brand new to influencer marketing

The social media marketing team truly may have not allocated influencer marketing budget and they’re testing out working with influencers on a gifted basis.

Sometimes companies, whether they’re startups or established businesses, have to show their Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) that influencer marketing makes sense for their business. And sometimes, that requires marketing teams to prove this out – so they’re working with either no or little influencer marketing budget.

Reason 2: There’s enough influencers willing to work on gifted basis and brand teams don’t have to spend money on sourcing or hiring influencers

Brands know content is expensive. Even if you have a photographer, a copywriter, and a social media manager in-house, you know it takes time, resources, and energy to produce content.

The first brand opportunity we discuss came into Maddy's inbox for a May 2021 campaign.

Deliverables: Take an afternoon to do an activity and showcase the brand’s sweepstakes

  • (1)   In-feed Instagram posts
  • (2)   IG stories

 Budget:

  • $225
  • And $100 is to cover the cost of activity they wanted to showcase for this campaign, meaning the brand is only offering $125
