Let’s first remember that sound propagates differently depending on frequencies. As subwoofers only generate low frequencies, typically well below 200 Hz, all types of subwoofer design

Wall and Corner Loading

Very low frequencies are not directional, so they radiate from the sides and back of the loudspeaker, as well as from the front. If you place a loudspeaker against a wall, the rear sound propagates back into the room. This can increase the bass frequency output as much as 6 dB if the speaker is placed near one wall
